Who are we?
The National Bereavement Service was formed with the premise to be able to be on hand to offer anyone who needs advice and guidance on what to do following a bereavement. Led by Jean Watkins, Bereavement Services Manager and a team of bereavement advisors, practical information and support is provided along with signposting to many services that the bereaved may feel of assistance at their time of need.
The National Bereavement Service deal with numerous calls every day from our free helpline telephone number and our aim is to provide useful and straightforward guidance when you need it most.
The National Bereavement Service is committed to providing a transparent and clear service to anyone who calls. We have ensured that any agency we signpost to have been diligently checked to ensure they work to our own high standards of service provision and clear advice.
NBS is funded by a variety of financial and corporate organisations to enable these organisations to direct their clients and staff to the services we offer. We also receive funding from legal service providers in order to keep our services in operation. As a not-for-profit organisation any funding received is re-invested into the National Bereavement Service.

The National Bereavement Service has developed close relationships with organisations who deal with families who have been bereaved by murder and manslaughter and provide an invaluable service to those that need it at a difficult time. We are very proud and privileged to be associated with this relationship and honoured to be able to help those that are so bereft in such terrible circumstances.
We are also pleased to be able to work alongside the NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors), an organisation whose members work to exacting standards to ensure the bereaved families can have confidence in the funeral arrangements to provide a fitting and final farewell to their loved one.
